Membership & Evangelism Committee

This church committee is responsible for distributing the church’s monthly newsletter, organizing the church’s phone tree for use in emergency situations, keeping a scrapbook of church events, and sending cards to church members. They welcome visitors to our church by sharing a loaf of homemade bread wrapped in a t-towel embroidered with the MCC logo. The committee also organizes church-wide fellowship dinners throughout the year including fun activities like “white elephant bingo” and Easter egg hunts. College students appreciate the committee’s college student care packages sent out at finals time. Since 1991, church members have participated in the State of Missouri’s Adopt-A-Highway program, cleaning up State Road J four times a year. At year-end, members enjoy an afternoon of Christmas caroling, visiting seniors in Millersburg and Fulton.

Missions and Outreach Committee

In a recent survey of church members, the missions program was identified as one of the church’s most important projects. Twelve percent of all pledges, offerings, and donations go to mission/outreach efforts. In addition, special offerings are taken for Week of Compassion, Easter Offering, Reconciliation Offering, Thanksgiving Offering, and Christmas Offering. Local outreach projects have included The Eldercare Center in Columbia, Haven House, Human Development Corporation, Kingdom Hospice, and SERVE. Church members support two soup kitchens by providing food and serving at Loaves and Fishes Soup Kitchen in Columbia, as well as preparing sandwiches and distributing meals at the Fulton Soup Kitchen, serving a total of 45 to 145 hungry people each month.
The church collects a different food item each month for the SERVE Food Pantry. For years, church members have collected pledges and participated in the annual CROP Walk to fight hunger. Annually, Millersburg Christian Church collects various items for distribution to the needy through Festival of Sharing held in Sedalia, Missouri. For Thanksgiving and Christmas, the church “adopts” needy families and provides groceries, gift certificates for perishable food, and gifts of clothing, toys and personal items.
The congregation supports our denomination’s Disciples Mission Fund, the Northeast Area of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), and the Missouri School of Religion. We may be small, but when it comes to missions, we think BIG!

Property Committee

Property supervises the maintenance and upkeep of our building. It plans workdays, and coordinates repairs. It also discusses policies related to the use of the building.

Stewardship and Finance Committee

Stewardship and Finance is responsible for receiving budget requests from the various committees and writing the church budget. This committee is also responsible for the annual stewardship campaign, and is involved in the planning for any fundraising events. This committee also monitors income and expenses to make sure the budget remains in balance.

Worship Committee

This busy committee provides communion supplies, organizes communion bread preparation, maintains the sanctuary including the candles, banners, and worship floral arrangements, and finds candle lighters and youth for taking offering each Sunday. They are involved in the planning of special worship services such as Ash Wednesday, Palm Sunday, Preschool Sunday, Maundy Thursday, Easter Sunday, Mother’s and Father’s Days, Youth Recognition Sunday, Choir Sunday, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Sunday, Advent, and Christmas Sunday. The committee also finds baby-sitters for worship time.
